Use of the Zendo at Mid City Zen
Mid City Zen’s zendo is a sacred space for meditation, community practice, and spiritual growth. While its primary use is for our regular practice schedule, we welcome requests to host events that align with our values and can fit within our schedule.
What We Can Support
We may be able to occasionally host:
- Meditation, study, contemplative, or interfaith gatherings
- Weddings, funerals, memorials, other ceremonial events
- Workshops rooted in mindfulness, social justice, non-violent activism, or community care
All hosted events must:
- Be non-commercial and in harmony with the spirit of Zen practice
- Be sponsored by a current MCZ member and include an MCZ member present during the event
- Keep the space clean and respected
We cannot rent or sublet the space. All events must be hosted under MCZ’s guidance and responsibility in accordance with our lease.
Request Timeline and Process
- Requests must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the proposed date.
- Some requests may require review by the MCZ Board. The board typically meets monthly, so early requests are encouraged as requests not sponsored by a current MCZ Member must be approved by the board and should be submitted at least one month in advance.
- To request use of the space, please complete our Zendo Use Request Form.
Supporting the Space
We offer the zendo as an expression of shared practice. When possible, we welcome donations to help sustain and care for the space.
Important Notes
Mid City Zen is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment. For this reason:
- Some events—especially those involving physical movement or professional services—may require additional information, safety protocols, or insurance documentation.
- We are not able to accommodate events involving therapy, counseling, or unsupervised minors at this time.
If you’re unsure whether your event is a good fit, we encourage you to reach out at welcome@midcityzen.org. We’re happy to discuss it with you.
